Endometriosis Awareness Month: You Are Not Alone 🫶

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about a condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 women and individuals assigned female at birth during their reproductive years. Despite how common it is, endometriosis is often misunderstood, underdiagnosed, or dismissed.

At My PT 2 Go Physical Therapy Clinic, we want you to know: your pain is real, and you have options for support.

What Is Endometriosis? 🎗️

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus. This tissue can attach to structures such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, bowel, and pelvic sidewalls. Because this tissue responds to hormonal changes, it can lead to inflammation, irritation, scar tissue formation, and significant pain.

Endometriosis

Common symptoms include:

  • Painful or worsening menstrual cycles

  • Chronic pelvic pain

  • Pain with intimacy

  • Painful bowel movements or urination

  • Low back, hip, or tailbone pain

  • Bloating (“endo belly”)

  • Fertility challenges

Many individuals wait years for a proper diagnosis. Early support and a comprehensive treatment plan can make a meaningful difference.

The Role of the Pelvic Floor ⭐️

With ongoing inflammation and pain, the pelvic floor muscles often become tight, guarded, and overactive. This muscular tension can intensify pelvic pain and contribute to:

  • Pain with intimacy

  • Urinary urgency or frequency

  • Constipation or bowel discomfort

  • Persistent low back or hip pain

Even after medical or surgical treatment, pelvic floor dysfunction may remain. This is where pelvic physical therapy becomes an important part of care.

How Pelvic Physical Therapy Can Help 🙋🏻‍♀️

At My PT 2 Go, we provide specialized pelvic health physical therapy designed to reduce pain, improve function, and restore confidence in your body. Treatment may include:

  • Pelvic floor muscle relaxation and downtraining

  • Gentle manual therapy to reduce tissue restrictions

  • Scar tissue mobility work following laparoscopic procedures

  • Nervous system regulation and pain science education

  • Core and hip strengthening for pelvic stability

  • Education and tools for managing flare-ups at home

Our approach is individualized, compassionate, and centered around your goals.
